Almost three weeks after Cody Eakin made his NHL debut, Dmitry Orlov donned the Washington Capitals jersey for his first career NHL game. Fresh off of a three-point night, Orlov was called up Sunday morning, much to the excitement of Caps and Bears fans everywhere.

Eakin was excited to see his Hershey teammate in Washington. Before the game, he spoke to the media about how he was impressed with Orlov’s style of play. Speaking of Cody, he scored his second NHL goal during Orlov’s debut.

Much has been made of Orlov’s talents and the fans in Washington were antsy to see just what he could do.

Overall, he did a solid job and the Caps beat the Coyotes, 4-3. In just under twelve minutes of ice time, he was credited with zero shots on goal, three hits, and an even rating. The only down side came during a Phoenix goal late in the game. Orlov lost the puck between his feet and the rebound was picked up by a Coyote. It was an unfortunate bounce, not too much he could have done.

Coach Bruce Boudreau was impressed with the Russian phenom. After the game, he sang his praises, saying that he “looked very composed” and “played it smart.”

With one game down, the Capitals organization remains excited to see this young gun develop.
