Bears Can’t ‘Checkmate’ the Monarchs, Lose 5-4

When you score four goals, you normally win a hockey game, but tonight was different for the Hershey Bears. After going toe-to-toe with the Manchester Monarchs the first two periods, the Bears gave up a late goal and the two points to the Monarchs in a 5-4 regulation loss.

The Bears got on the board first as Keith Aucoin extend his point streak scoring 3:26 into the first. That lead lasted ten seconds for Hershey has the Monarchs tied it up 3:36 into the first.

The Monarchs took their first lead of the game just over a minute into the second after Aucoin’s faceoff went off of Danny Richmond’s skate and into the net.

But Hershey would regain the lead with two goals from Jacob Micflikier and Boyd Kane, scoring only :24 apart. This was a game of seconds as Manchester would tie it back up scoring less then a minute later, making it a 3-3 game.

Manchester took back the lead early into the third after Cam Paddock gave the Monarchs a 4-3 lead.

Late into the third, Micflikier tied the game up with his second goal of the game and 18th of the season.

But that wasn’t enough as Marc-Andre Cliche got one past Dany Sabourin and gave the Monarchs the win, 5-4.
