Chocolate Fix 4/4/2012

Another eventful week in the books for us. Last Wednesday night we had our first ever viewing party. We had quite a few people come out to Fire Alley to watch the game and help us raise some money. It also helped that the Bears won against Binghamton extending the winning streak to seven. Sadly, that streak came to an end on Saturday against St. Johns. Fortunately the Bears got a little help from other losses that night and clinched a playoff spot. Thanks in part to an effort from Ryan Potulny that earned him AHL Player of the week honors, the Bears came back from a deficit on Sunday against Binghamton. That effort proved to fall just a little short when the Bears lost in 13 rounds of shootout. Before you move on to the rest of the links from around the web, check out the pictures from autograph night taken by Kyle.

We have another MVP playing in Hershey. TJ Syner was named as the MVP for UMass hockey for 2011-2012. [UMass]

The AHL Man of the Year team winners were announced. Locally, Joel Rechlicz was chosen as the Bears Man of the Year. [Bears]

Side note: the AHL Man of the Year is awarded the Yanick Dupré Memorial Award which is named for the Bears forward and AHL All-Star that lost a battle with leukemia in 1997. He was only 24.

I wonder if it was painful for the Winnipeg Free Press to run a favorable story on the Bears. In this case, Daniel Koger. [WFP]

If the Caps miss the playoffs we will be in great shape, right? [HBHB]

In the new signings department, the Bears added Billy Ryan and Cameron Schilling. [Bears, Bears]

The boys at the Old Barn Hockey Show are back this week. In addition to the Bears, they talk about happening in the NHL and with John Walton about the Caps. [OBHS]
