HERSHEY, PA – Connor Carrick and Stan Galiev celebrate Galiev’s goal as Brandon Manning leaves the penalty box in the third period of Hershey’s 4-2 win over Lehigh Valley (Kyle Mace / Chocolate Hockey)

After coming off of a tough stretch of losing three straight games, the Hershey Bears faced off against the Lehigh Valley Phantoms exactly one week after being shutout by Anthony Stolarz in a 2-0 loss. Stolarz would get the nod again against the Chocolate and White, but this game would end a bit differently for the two teams.

Just like the last game against the Phantoms, the Bears came out strong, throwing lots of pucks at the net, hoping one would just sneak though Stolarz early, who has been 4-0-1 in his last five starts. That would not be the case in the first period, when Blair Jones would give LV the early 1-0 lead.

After pounding away, Hershey finally broke through as Chris Conner netted his sixth goal of the season, tying the game at 1-1.

The lead would not last long at all, as Jay Rosehill, the player who injured Patrick Wey earlier in the season and hit Philippe Cornet from behind earlier in the game, scored his first goal of the season, giving the lead right back to the Phantoms.

After a delay of game call late in the second on the Phantoms, Brandon Manning would say something that David Banfield would not like, giving Hershey a 5-on-3 power play to start the third period. Stan Galiev would make use of the man advantage, scoring his tenth goal of the season, tying the game at two-all.

Then came a scary moment, as Anthony Stolarz collapsed in the net after what looked to be him hitting his head on the crossbar. He would exit the game and Martin Ouellette would enter in his place.

The game would stay tied 2-2 until the final five minutes, when Cameron Schilling scored to give Hershey their first lead of the night. Casey Wellman had a nifty interception that turned into an empty net goal to lock the win and give the Bears the two points and a win.

The Bears are back at Giant Center tonight, when they take on Binghamton for another divisional game.
