Former Bears heavyweight Joel Rechlicz is back in town for a summer youth hockey camp in Harrisburg. The Edge Performance Summer Camp is taking place at Twins Ponds East where over sixty young skaters are taking part in a week long session lead by Rechlicz and former Bears Calder Cup champion Rob Shearer.

“It’s unreal,” Rechlicz said. “This is my favorite place to be. It’s a great hockey town, great community, great people. Just everything about it is awesome. I love coming back here.”

This is the second straight year that “Recker” is back at the camp in Lower Paxton Twp. “The kids are having fun out there. We just run down the basic stuff and they are working hard. It’s a great camp. Rob Shearer and Freddy Cassivi are part of a great staff.

“We just keep it moving, (the kids) are always moving. They are working on every bit of their skill and every bit of their game. As as coach I see from day one to day five, you really see improvement with the kids. It’s really special for us to see that.”

Currently Rechlicz is unsigned for the 2015-16 season, but is hoping for the best. “Otherwise I’m driving the bus. Hopefully something works out, so keep your fingers crossed for me.”

The camp runs until Thursday. Guest coaches include 2006 Calder Cup MVP Freddy Cassivi, former Bear Kris Newbury, and former NHL referee Paul Devorski.
