Defenseman Jonas Siegenthaler Exercises Option to Return to Switzerland

The Hershey Bears and Washington Capitals have announced defenseman Jonas Siegenthaler has exercised his option to return to Switzerland.

The Switzerland native played six games for Hershey, scoring his first AHL point in his first AHL game against Lehigh Valley in Hershey’s 8-0 win on March 23.

Siegenthaler, 18, was drafted by Washington in 2015, 57th overall in the second round. Bears PR director Scott Stuccio said Siegenthaler is expected to return in July for Capitals developmental camp.

04/08/2016 – HERSHEY, Pa. – The Hershey Bears, in conjunction with the Washington Capitals, announced today that rookie defenseman Jonas Siegenthaler has exercised his option to return to his native Switzerland. The announcement was made by Bears President/GM Doug Yingst.

The 18-year-old Siegenthaler made his AHL debut on March 23 and recorded his first point, an assist, at Lehigh Valley. He appeared in a total of six games with the Bears, playing his most recent contest on Sunday at Providence.

Siegenthaler, a native of Zurich, Switzerland, was selected by the Capitals in the second round (57th overall) of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft. He is expected to participate in the Capitals Development Camp in June at Kettler Capitals Iceplex.
