The Hershey Bears defeated the St. John’s IceCaps on Sunday afternoon to get a win out of back to back contests following a late 4-3 loss yesterday.

The game featured excellent chemistry by the line with Jakub Vrana, Travis Boyd, and Riley Barber. They combined to get the Bears on the board over halfway through the first when Barber made a picture perfect shot from the slot to put the Bears up 1-0.

Hershey got some key saves from Pheonix Copley in his fourth straight start in goal and eventually got rewarded as Barber fed Vrana on the rush and further extended the lead to 2-0 just three minutes into the third.

Copley was outstanding in the game making 35 saves, including one where he sprawled across the crease to keep the score in the Bears’ favor.

However, after the Bears missed on a four-minute double minor, St. John’s was awarded a power play of their own and cut the lead to 2-1.

Hershey closed out the game with solid defensive play and got the win to gain two more valuable standings points. This comes a day after Hershey lost to St. John’s on a goal with 16 seconds left to break a 3-3 tie, and in a game where Hershey led 3-1 at one point.

The Bears travel to Hartford on Friday, then play two of their last three home games next weekend against Bridgeport and Lehigh Valley.
