Michal Neuvirth and Braden Holtby to Face Off in Stanley Cup Playoffs

A Hershey Bears first will happen Wednesday night in Philadelphia. The first every matchup of two Hershey Bears goalies that played together on the same Bears Calder Cup team will face off in a Stanley Cup Playoff game. Michal Neuvirth and Braden Holtby, who played together on the 2009-10 Calder Cup team, will start for their respective teams in game four of the first round match-up between the Philadelphia Flyers and the Washington Capitals.

Five Former Bears Named to Initial World Cup of Hockey Rosters

Wednesday afternoon five former Hershey Bears were named to four different World Cup of Hockey rosters for the 2016 Tournament to be held in Toronto. Dmitry Orlov, Semyon Varlamov, John Carlson, Braden Holtby, and Michal Neuvirth were all named their home country’s initial roster.

Orlov an Varlamov will represent Team Russia, Carlson will sport the red, white, and blue for Team USA, Holtby will have a maple leaf on his chest as he will between the pipes for Team Canada, and the 2009 AHL Calder Cup Playoffs MVP Michal Neuvirth was named as one of the goalies for Team Czech Republic.

Justin Peters Finishes Conditioning Stint with Hershey

After a weekend stay in Hershey, goaltender Justin Peters was recalled by the Washington Capitals early Monday morning. Peters hasn’t seen any game action in over a month, since former Bear Braden Holtby has played in 23 consecutive games. The Caps decided to gave Peters a chance to get some of the rust off before returning to the NHL, where he is scheduled to start on Saturday against the Dallas Stars.

With the Giant Center ice troubling the Hershey Bears Hockey Club, they looked for their tenth road win of the campaign in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Braden Holtby was named a healthy scratch, as Dany Sabourin backstopped the Bears to an exciting 4-3 overtime win over the Sound Tigers. Tomas Kundratek tallied two goals, including the overtime game winner to help tame the Tigers.

Sunday the Bears looked to overcome a two goal deficit in the third period, but fell to the Sharks, 2-1.

Saturday the Hershey Bears looked to kick off the New Year by beating the red hot Binghamton Senators. The Senators enter their second contest of 2013 at Hershey with a 20-7-1-2 record, second in the East Division. Mike Hoffman scored the game-winner at the 12:08 mark, as the Bears only fired 21 shots on goal in a 3-1 loss to Binghamton.

Braden Holtby Named AHL Goaltender of the Month

Earlier today, the AHL and the Hershey Bears announced that goalie Braden Holtby has been named CCM/AHL Goaltender of the Month for December. The 23-year-old netminder appeared in ten games last month, putting up a 1.69 goals-against average, a .943 save percentage, and three shutouts.
