Chris Brown Returns to Hershey for Conditioning Stint

It has been a tough road this season for Chris Brown. After breaking his finger in the preseason with Washington, requiring surgery, he found himself stuck in no man’s land. Now after a month of rehab with the Caps, the Texas native returns to Hershey for a conditioning stint.

“I feel good,” Brown said at morning skate Friday. “Just been kind of getting skating and trying to get back in the swing of things. Game conditioning is a lot different from skating on your own. I’m looking to get back into it and contribute.”

Capitals Make Six Cuts From Training Camp. Galiev, Grubauer Make Opening Night Roster

The Washington Capitals made six cuts from their training camp roster Monday morning, setting up their final roster of 24 players. Included on that opening night roster are seven players who played with Hershey last season. Stan Galiev, Philipp Grubauer, Chris Brown, Nate Schmidt, Andre Burakovsky and Dmitry Orlov. Burakovsky and Orlov played only small stints with Hershey last year. Both Galiev and Grubauer make the opening night roster for the first time in their careers.

A playoff game usually doesn’t result in a 10 goal effort, but the Hershey Bears put together their best offensive game of the season and beat the Worcester Sharks 10-4 on Friday night to advance to the Calder Cup conference semi-finals.

It was a difficult way to win a game, but the Bears had a come from behind victory in game one of the Calder Cup Eastern Conference quarter-finals Friday night in Worcester. An outstanding performance from goalie Pheonix Copley, who had a 41-save night, along with a great overall team effort propelled the Chocolate and White to a 4-1 victory over the Sharks.

All heck broke lose Saturday night at Giant Center with 4:20 remaining in the second period against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. It all started with goaltender interference on Pheonix Copley that went uncalled, knocking the stick out of his hands. He made a glove save to put play to a halt, where a scrum quickly escalated.

Sunday night was a chance for the Hershey Bears to continue their dominance against the Lehigh Valley Phantoms and East Division. After a big OT win the night before against Wilkes-Barre, Hershey’s division lead was at five points coming into Sunday. A day win for Wilkes-Barre over Bridgeport would promise the Bears could not gain any ground, but still hold that five point lead.

Looking for their fifth straight win against Lehigh Valley, the Bears and Phantoms went back and forth all night long.

The Hershey Bears continue an important stretch of games against division rivals tonight at Giant Center. The Bears play a rare back to back set of Tuesday and Wednesday games, starting with the Norfolk Admirals, followed by a game in Wilkes-Barre less than 24 hours later.

Seven goals, six (give or take two) fights, and 114 penalty minutes. This game was the first of eight matches between the Hershey Bears and Binghamton Senators in the 2014-15 season, and boy was it a fun one. Hershey would take the two points, but not without a lot of action in the game. Chris Brown and Philippe Cornet would give Hershey an early 2-0 lead only seven minutes into the first period.

After struggling to find the back of the net last few weeks, the Bears have relied on only a few players for their scoring. One of those players was Stan Galiev, who came into the game scoring Hershey’s last three goals. He kicked off the scoring Friday night by putting Hershey first on the board early in the first period.

As the turkey heats up in the oven for Thanksgiving tomorrow, the Hershey Bears – Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins rivalry is heating up with each meeting this season. Coming into this evening’s game, the Bears have won seven straight against the Penguins at Giant Center. Hershey was looking to make that eight straight with the traditional Thanksgiving eve game.
