It was a perfect cap to the end of a season. With a crowd of 10,964 in attendance and the Chocolate and White out of the playoffs, Hershey would go on to beat Adirondack by a score of 2-1 in the season finale of the 2013-14 season.

On a frigid New Year’s morning, five Hershey Bears players look onward at the “beach” on City Island in Harrisburg. They are about to take the dive into the Susquehanna River for the annual “Penguin Plunge” that benefits the Harrisburg Humane Society. It’s a cause near and dear to Bears defenseman Tyson Strachan.

The Hershey Bears put an early close to their weekend last night with a 3-1 loss against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at Mohegan Sun Arena. It marked the Bears’ fourth loss to the Pens this season in four attempts. Both teams meet once again on November 30 at Giant Center.

The Hershey Bears probably wish the clock would run a little faster when they go to Wilkes-Barre. Friday night’s overtime loss was the second straight game, on the Penguins home ice, where the Bears lost in the closing moments of the game.

It took the Hershey Bears four games and 1,828 miles to find themselves and find their first win of the season. After a third straight loss on Friday night, Hershey looked like the team Bears fans were expecting to see on Saturday. The Bears scored four unanswered goals and Philipp Grubauer made 30 saves in route to a 4-0 win over the St. John’s IceCaps.

The spotlights shined at Giant Center for opening night between the Hershey Bears and Adirondack Phantoms to kick off the 2013-14 campaign. It began the final season the Phantoms will be sheltered in the ADK, as they are set to move into the new Lehigh Valley-based PPL Center next season.
Brandon Manning scored 3:22 into the sudden death overtime frame to down Hershey, 4-3.
Tonight the long hockey journey begins for the Hershey Bears. It begins with great anticipation. When the Bears take to the ice tonight for their home opener Bears fans will be watching a new era in Hershey hockey. A new coach, new players and a new style that is likely to erase the memory of the last two seasons. 18 of the 31 players on the opening night roster played all or part of last season in Hershey.
