Doug Yingst and Bryan Helmer Inducted into AHL Hall of Fame

Their names are synonymous with the great tradition of Hershey Bears hockey. Now their names are forever enshrined with the legends of the American Hockey League. Monday morning in Allentown, Doug Yingst and Bryan Helmer became the newest members of the American Hockey League Hall of Fame. Yingst’s career with the Bears began as a sales and promotions director. It ended when he retired last season after 34 years, completing his run as President and General Manager. His four Calder Cup championships as General Manager equals the most in league history.

Doug Yingst Named Lebanon Valley College Director of Corporate Relations and Athletic Giving

Former Bears president and general manager Doug Yingst has been names Lebanon Valley College’s new director of corporate relations and athletic giving.

“There has always been a passion for LVC, not only for myself, but also my family,” Yingst said in a press release. “It truly is a rewarding feeling to have the opportunity to work at such an outstanding College. I can only hope my employment will have a significant and positive impact.”

Bryan Helmer Announced as Hershey Bears VP of Hockey Ops

An emotional Bryan Helmer, on the same day as his seventeenth wedding anniversary, was introduced as the new head man of the Hershey Bears Hockey Club. Helmer, 44, becomes the first ever former Bears player, captain, and coach to take over the franchise, as he follows the path laid out by another former defenseman, Frank Mathers.

“Now I get to call Hershey home,” Helmer said. “I have stability with this job where I don’t have to move every one to two years. My family is excited. They get to stay in one spot.

Hershey Bears President and GM Doug Yingst Announces Retirement

During Hershey Bears opening night ceremonies, team President and General Manager Doug Yingst announced he will be retiring at the end of the 2015-16 season.

This season will be Yingst’s 34th with the organization, spending the last 18 as president and gm. In 1996, Yingst was named general manager of the hockey club, winning a Calder Cup that season, his first of four in that position with the Bears. Those four Calder Cup victories as GM is tied for most in AHL history.

The two spoke to Bears coaches Troy Mann and Bryan Helmer, President and GM Doug Yingst, Brandon Sheaffer of Great Saves Productions, and Mike Miller of Mixed Up Productions about the up coming Pink the Rink night, featuring the pink specially jerseys.

Hershey Bears Hold First Ever Hockey ‘n Heels

If you look around at any Hershey Bears game, you’ll notice a very strong base of female fans. In fact, 50% of fans in the stands are female. Wednesday night at Giant Center 100% of the fans were female for a first time event, “Hockey + Heels.” It was an interactive learning experience for 200 women, all of whom are Bears fans.

Last night at the Hershey Bears family skate at the Outdoor Rink inside Hersheypark Stadium, Doug Yingst gathered around the Bears and spoke to them. This wasn’t about the angles of the stadium or how the lighting will look for the outdoor game, this was about one of their teammates. Tomas Kundratek learned he was named to the 2013 AHL All-Star game in Providence.
