On a frigid New Year’s morning, five Hershey Bears players look onward at the “beach” on City Island in Harrisburg. They are about to take the dive into the Susquehanna River for the annual “Penguin Plunge” that benefits the Harrisburg Humane Society. It’s a cause near and dear to Bears defenseman Tyson Strachan.

On Saturday night, missed opportunities haunted the Hershey Bears against the Worcester Sharks leading to their tenth regulation set back of the season. A factor towards the defeat was having only a 1-for-7 success rate on the man-advantage, dropping their ranking to 24th in the 30 team American Hockey League.

The power play struggles continued into the next night against the Sharks, but the end result differed in Hershey’s 4-0 win.

Hershey Bears Movember Campaign in Full Force

It’s become a nationwide awareness and fund raising effort for men’s health and ten members of the Hershey Bears are taking part. “Movember” gets men to grow mustaches in the month of November to increase conversation about men’s health, getting them to take action with visits to the doctor, and to raise money for research for prostate and testicular cancer. Last year alone, the Movember campaign raised over $147 million.

Sunday night’s Hershey Bears game may show up as an overtime shootout loss, but the Bears showed up with two of their best efforts of the season this weekend. Hershey lost to Binghamton 5-4, but picked up three of four standings points and have now picked up points in five of their last six games.
