With three Bears defensemen currently enjoying life in the National Hockey League, Thursday the organization looked to bring in a helping hand to Chocolate Town.

The Hershey Bears kicked off the second half of February with a match up north of the U.S. border in Hamilton, Ontario. While the Bears are striding for a higher placing in the Eastern Conference’s top eight, the Hamilton Bulldogs are looking to leap out of the Western Conference cellar. Friday the Bears bested the Bulldogs in scoring
chances, but fell in a head-scratching 3-2 shootout decision.

With momentum riding high in the Hershey Bears’ locker room following a win in our nation’s capital, the Bears looked to carry that momentum to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Kevin Marshall recorded his first and only shot of the game at the 3:18 mark of overtime, and capitalized on Penguins’ goaltender Jeff Zatkoff to send the Bears past the W-B for the forth time this season, 5-4.

With the Hershey Bears season coming to a close, most Bears fans will be putting all of their focus on the NHL playoffs. One of those teams left in the NHL playoffs are the Washington Capitals, the Bears affiliate. Monday night the Capitals will face off against the New York Rangers in game two of their series, but you could see some recalls before that. Those recalls are called “Black Aces,” named after holding the “Dead Man’s Hand” (two black aces) in a game of poker. So who could some of those “Black Aces” be?
The penultimate game of the regular season: Hershey Bears on the road versus Manchester Monarchs.
There were four goals to talk about during the first period; unfortunately only one of them belonged to the Bears. Richard Clune started off the night by deflecting the puck off of his foot. Ryan Potulny tied it up with yet another power play goal from him. He’s pretty good at those. But Monarchs scored two more times on Daren Machesney. A shorthanded goal and a five-hole goal made it 3-1 Monarchs after twenty minutes.

The Hershey Bears are supposed to feed players to the parent club Washington Capitals, but on Saturday night it was the Bears fans who got to taste the “Cheese” again. Former Bears goaltender Daren Machesney returned to Hershey from South Carolina, playing his first game as a Bear since the 08-9 season. Dany Sabourin was called up to Washington, to back up the other Bears goaltender Braden Holtby, as the Caps finished the regular season against the Rangers. Machesney played well, but the Bears only picked up one point against Syracuse in a 3-2 shootout loss.

As the season winds down, the Bears take to the ice to try and improve their position in the standings. No better chance to achieve this than to take down the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
The first period left much to be desired from the Bears. Despite three power play chances, the Bears only mustered up four shots on goal. To make matters worse, the Penguins scored late in the period, just eight seconds into a power play.
After being on the wrong end of a 6-1 thrashing last night, the Bears had a second chance to show their stuff against the St. John’s IceCaps.
The Bears weren’t able to get into a groove in the first period as both teams were in and out of the penalty boxes. But Ryan Potulny gave the Bears their first ever lead against the IceCaps with a power play goal a few minutes into the second period.
