What do High School Students Think the Hershey Bears do for a Living?

Any Hershey Bears fan would be able to recognize their favorite player if they encountered them off the ice, right? There is no other way to picture the athletes than as hockey players. As for people who have never attended a Bears game? They wouldn’t have any idea that the guy standing in line behind them is a professional ice hockey player.

I asked high school students who don’t know anything about the Bears what they believe their occupations are. The students were given head shots of eleven players with the jerseys cropped out. They did not know anything about the project being conducted. These are their answers:

Photos From First Day of 2016 Washington Capitals Developmental Camp

Monday marked the first day of 2016 Washington Capitals Developmental Camp at Kettler Capitals Iceplex. Only 16 days after the Hershey Bears season came to an end, four members of the Calder Cup Runner-Up team participated in the Camp. Travis Boyd, Riley Barber, Madison Bowey, and Tyler Lewington took part in a day of drills and classes.

Madison Bowey: 2015-16 Season in Review

Madison Bowey has all the qualities to be the complete package. At six-foot-two-inch, 210 pounds, he already has NHL size and plays with a physical edge to his game. Where he excels is on the offensive side of the puck. What Bears fans saw was a player much like former Bear Mike Green, a defenseman with a very offensive mind. Bowey has the ability to go deep into the offensive zone to help create plays on the offensive side of the puck very easily. Despite his size, he is an excellent skater with a heavy shot and good vision. He has played key roles in every step of his development and has only gotten better with the experience he gained his rookie season.

Travis Boyd skates to accept his award Sunday night

Sunday night the Hershey Bears honored this season’s team with the annual award ceremony. Eight awards were handed out to players this year.

Chris Bourque took home Bears team MVP, Riley Barber was named Rookie of the Year, Travis Boyd won the Kenny Smith Memorial Award for most player of the game nominations, Madison Bowey took home two awards: John Travers / Steve Summers award for highest plus/minus and Defenseman of the Year, and Nathan Walker took home eight awards: Man of the Year, Unsung Hero, and Most Improved Player.

VIDEO: Hershey Bears Players Carve Pumpkins for Halloween

Earlier this week, we had three Hershey Bears players carve pumpkins to see how they would do. Madison Bowey, Travis Boyd, and Nathan Walker were our subjects, carving everything from the Bears logo to a scary face. Walker, who’s from Australia, said caving pumpkins is not a normal tradition down under. For a first timer, Walker did pretty well. You can see all the carved squashes below with the whole event being recorded on video.
